An Insight Into a Day at Ultima

I am currently studying Business, Economics and Geography at 6th form, so when I was provided the opportunity to undertake work experience at Ultima – and gain an insight into a real operating business – I was beyond excited. 

On my first day at Ultima I had a one-to-one session with the Sales Director; he gave me a lot of useful tips to become a successful salesman. We also discussed different types of sales people and their approach to customers.

I was advised to research Warren Buffett – who, as I now know, is a very successful stock trader. I also found out about the Microsoft Hololens which is shaping the future of computing with its mixed reality offering.

Some of the highlights I took away from the session were: 

• Create an agenda – be clear in what you want to get from the meeting
• Plan your time – ensure you present your key points
• Presentation – understand the feature, advantage and benefit of what you are selling

During my visit I also sat down with the marketing deparment. They demonstrated their automated marketing tools, and I got to help pick out some branded merchandise goodies for customer events!

Day two saw an introduction to the world of resourcing – including consultancy and engineering. I also got to sit down with experienced Account Managers; gaining valuable pointers regarding the IT world.

The experience I gained bolstered my CV, and I enjoyed every minute. I would recommend Ultima to anyone wanting to delve into the working world of IT.
